Breaking News: Former HOD Of Religious Studies Dies @70

A septuagenarian, Professor Jemiriye Timothy Folorunso J.F. of Department of Religious Studies, Faculty of Art, Ekiti State University died a week after celebrating his 70th birthday.

Timothy Folorunso JEMIRIYE was born on 3rd of May 1948. He obtained his B.Th (Theology) in NBTS/SBTS Ogbomoso, Nigeria/ Louisville,Kentucky, USA in may 1963, also his M.Div (Divinity) in Queen's University, Kingston Canada in May,1980, he later proceed further to obtained his M.Th(Theology) in University of Toronto, Emmanuel college, Toronto, Canada in May, 1983. Then he obtained his Ph.D in University of Ibadan, Ibadan Nigeria in Oct 14th, 1988.

He was a man of many faces; as a family man, he was happily married and blessed  with Children.

As a career academician, he had degrees - in B.Th, M.Div, M.Th and a Doctor of Philosphy in Theology, Church History and Religious studies with a bias for African Traditional Religion. He is presently an Associate Professor and the Head of Department of Religious Studies in the University of Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria where he also lectures.

He also served in various capacities in the past such as Dean, Faculty of Arts, member of University Senate, member of University Governing Council, Chairman, University Security committee among others.

A man with a large heart, he believed in imparting knowledge and helping others to make their dreams in education and career come true; to this end he established ELOS (Educational and Life Orientation Services); a Life Management and Consultancy Service where courses and Seminars are offered to enable School leavers, Graduates, Parents and even religious leaders fulfil their aspirations and resolve life's practical issues that they may be facing.

He was a seasoned religious leader with several years of service with the Nigerian Baptist Convention amongst other religious establishments. Professor Jemiriye through ELOS's radio, and seminar programme reaches out to people outside the academia.


May his soul rest in perfect peace.
