On the Governor's arrival to the main auditorium of the university, the student shouted in elation shouted Osoko!
The Governor climbed the stage enthusiastically and shouted 'Greatest Nigerian Students! while the students replied with heey!
The Governor apologized to the student for coming late and also commended the students for their patience. He also thanked everyone who were present calling them brothers and sisters and that his nearly four years successful government is traceable to their love and support.
He also recognized the potential of the youth in his statement and reiterate his continuity agenda. In the main, Mr. Governor also made known to the public that the law of Ekiti state has been amended to accommodate young people in an election. Dr. Peter Ayodele Fayose in order to demonstrate what he has said ealier raised the hand of a 39 Year old man named Deji Ogunsakin who will serve as the Deputy to the Governorship aspirant and who is also an alumni of the university.
Afterward, the Governor gave room for questions from two students, male and female respectively. The male and female student acknowledged the presence of the Mr. Governor and pleaded on behalf of the student to look into the inflated tuition fee, issue of smartschool and the lack of electricity in the school area.
However, the Governor's response gave a sign of hope to the student. In his statement he said 'The issue of electricity is not in the purview of the government' and that he cannot make decision behind the back of the school vice chancellor. The Governor also added that he ought to have been informed earlier so as to make neccessary preparation.
The vice chancellor who was asked by the Mr. Governor to explain what smartschool is all about said the smartschool is an online learning platform that was approved by the governing council of the university and that the contentions of the students is that the cost attached to the smartschool is too much, and as at noe the cost of it per semester is 7,500naira making 15,000naira per session but the students refuted the proposition of the Vice chancellor that some students said they don't want smartschool, while some said they are enjoying it.
Govenor Peter Ayodele Fayose after hearing the position of the vice chancellor on the smartchool said some people have also counselled him on the benefit of the smartschool and that if it is not taken serious, one would lose sight of its huge benefit. He said further that he want to discuss the issue of the smartschool with twenty representative choosen out of the students and the school authority. He made a clear statement that he wouldn't like to interject in the lines of the institution. In the view of this, Mr. Governor said he have to hear from the two-sides before he can pronounce wether he is for or against the smartschool and this could only be achieved through consultation and advice from the representatives.
On the issue of school fees, the Governor said school fees is not an issue that can just be discussed on the street but it is overtly debatable and that their is no education without support from the parent Education is what you give to people eternally. The governor said he is open to everybody and that he ought to have been informed earlier on issues that are bordering the university and not until he comes to visit the university.
Moreover, on the issues of salary, Mr. Governor said he's trying his best and thay Ekiti State receives the least allocation in Nigeria. He also said that thirty-six thousand workers were promoted recently and he believes the student must have gotten their bursary now but the response of the student was No and the Mr. Governor said hyperbolically that the response of students are always No.
Mr. Fayose promised to support 600 students in the university and that accreditation would be made for the students who for fall into this category.
He also promised to give out 250 laptops and that these 250 students would be picked randomly in a raffle draw of 2000 names.
Mr. Governor also announced the commissioning of the flyover bridge on friday and that different artist would be present on that day. The artist includes, small doctor, legbegbe, wos wos wobi and many others.
The governor ended his address with Greatest Nigerian Students!!!
Comr. Collins, the student union caretaker chairman thanked the Governor and also presented him a gift on behalf of the students of Ekiti state university Ado Ekiti.
